Barium Fluoride (BaF2)
Barium Fluoride boasts high transmission from 200nm to 14um and as such is used for instrumentation windows, lenses and other components.
Barium Fluoride’s properties make it ideal for scintillation applications where it is utilised in x-ray, 511 keV gamma photon and other high energy particle detection.
Whilst BaF2 is the most resistant of the optical fluorides to high-energy radiation, it degrades in moisture and is susceptible to thermal shock, so care must be taken in systems intended for harsh environments.
Roditi’s optical BaF2 material is single-crystal optical quality, fabricated to order.
