Forsterite

Manufactured by Oxide Corporation in Japan, Forsterite is an excellent birefringent material with a wide transparency range.

It has an extremely low electrical conductivity so also makes an excellent substrate for electronics applications. The material is also used in the manifolds of solid oxide fuel cells.
